Micky van de Ven scored twice as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck on two occasions from corners in the first half to put their strong form at risk, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the tally a short while after the defender's opener, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a number of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of excellent saves to guarantee the London club went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the VAR intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to review the score on the screen and the official decided that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves Thomas Frank's team into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton remain in 14th position and sit half a dozen points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in role at each end of the field

Following a uninspiring midweek performance in the European competition against Monaco, where they managed a mere two shots on target, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Centre-back the Dutchman transformed into an offensive threat to be feared.

Spurs' first goal came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with the midfielder heading the ball toward the face of goal for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And the captain - stepping up as skipper in the Argentine's absence - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defence, combining effectively with Kevin Danso as the duo handled excellently with the 34 crosses thrown their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Toffees lacking finishing touch

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have worn off somewhat and supporters headed to the exits after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a massive concern for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and the other striker - the Toffees' pair of established centre-forwards - had scored only one league goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were unable to contribute to that miserable tally on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

Beto's form was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having space and time to readjust for a more conventional attempt that would have tested the keeper.

The substitute, as well, was unable to influence the game after replacing Beto in the second half.

It wasn't for a lack of opportunity. The majority of the home side's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered threatening crosses into the Spurs penalty area.

What next for these two sides?

The Toffees: The team head to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: The London club travel to Newcastle's ground on late October for their fourth-round Carabao Cup tie against the Magpies.
