Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
